President's Message

September 2010

Dear Eastside Welcome Club,

Summer is almost over and is fleeting like the beautiful sunsets I have been enjoying.  Since summer is the time many families move to Cleveland, I would like to welcome our newcomers to the area.  I know we have several new members who have recently joined us from as close as Akron and as far away as Minnesota.  While summer is actually my favorite season,  many of us in Ohio really look forward to September.  It signifies a return to routine, especially if you have children in school.  I hope you have finished your projects, had fun with your families, and enjoyed this time.  Cooler weather is around the corner.

If I had one piece of advice to offer a newcomer or visitor to Cleveland, it would be “Don’t miss Fall in Cleveland!”  To borrow a famous phrase, Cleveland rocks….in the fall!  In fact, I would say it is our busiest and most beautiful season.  From art shows to Fall Festivals…the end of Indians baseball to the beginning of the Cleveland Browns season…don’t miss out on what Cleveland offers in the fall.  Before your family calendar gets too full, don’t forget to make time for yourself and join us for our Newcomers’ Coffee on September 1st and our kick-off luncheon at the Cleveland Racquet Club on Wednesday, September 8th.  The featured  luncheon speaker will be from the Cleveland Food Bank, our charity for the year,  She will be discussing the services the Food Bank provides and how our organization can help.  Throughout the year we will be asking members to bring non-perishable food items to our events, and we have set of fundraising goal of $2,500 for the food bank.  We have many new and exciting ways to raise funds for our charity so look for these opportunities in our newsletters and e-mails.

Since September does signify the end of the lazy days of summer, I want to remind you about a couple of business matters.  Don’t forget to renew your membership as dues must be paid by October 1st to be included in our directory.  We are still looking for a 2nd VP to help Tawnya with the Luncheons.  Some of our activities need new leaders.  They are the Baby-sitting Co-op, Walking Club, Play Group, and Book Club I.  There are many ways for you to become involved and we would love to have you as part of the leadership of the Eastside Welcome Club.  I only have one more matter before I run off outdoors.  I would like to know how many young Mothers are interested in having babysitting at our luncheons/outings.  If a babysitter will allow you to attend our luncheons, we would like to hear from you.  Let Tawnya, our vice-president, know about your babysitting needs.  As always, enjoy what time we have left with summer and the lovely days in our city.  The beauty of fall will be upon us soon, and so will a new season of fun and making friends.
